• LUL Backs the Paddy Power and Stonewall Rainbow Laces Campaign

    September 18, 2013

This weekend LUL teams will join the Paddy Power and Stonewall ¬†‘Right Behind Gay Footballers’ campaign that’s sweeping the nation. Rainbow coloured boot laces are being sent to teams to wear during their fixtures on Sunday.
At the time of writing players including Joey Barton and teams including Everton, QPR and Leyton Orient were participating, with Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal still in discussions.
The impact of this national campaign remains to be seen, but social media is brimming right now with talk about #RBGF including Mr. Stephen Fry and his 6.1 million Twitter followers. ¬†Just as significantly clubs around the country are being forced to decide if they’ll participate or not, furthering internal discussion about homophobia in football.

  • Double figures for Romans Gladiators

Last season’s league winners began the new campaign in formidable style by putting ten goals past Titans 2 Brewers, who netted a solitary consolation in the game. The defeat will be a bitter pill for 2012/13’s bottom side, having started 2013/14 by chalking up a 2-0 win in their first game on Sunday 25th August against Millennium Falcons. The other Titans team, Titans Food Chain, recorded a narrow 1-0 victory away to Phoenix FC.
